Kanab Movie Fort and Movie Filmed There (1952-1979)

The Kanab Movie Fort was built in 1952 by Paramount  for the move Pony Express. It was used in many movies with additions and modifications made as needed. The final movie shot there was The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again (1979) This movie included a large explosion and fire at the fort which unfortunately severely damaged the fort and was never repaired.

The ruins of the fort are located south of Kanab off of 89A towards Fredonia. The Kanab city Cottonwood trail will get you to the old dirt road that leads to the fort location. Total distance is about 7 miles round trip. As you can see from the picture I took in 2015, there is not much left standing, but it is worth the trip when you consider all the movies that were filmed here.
